As for the posterior deltoid muscles, it spans down at the back area of your shoulder. And for the popular rotator cuff muscle, it is situated below the anterior delt from your armpit straight out. The next is your chest. The muscles in the chest are known as the pectoral muscles. Now we have your arms or do we say you guns. The biceps are situated on the inside of your arm, I am sure you know where they are. Then we have your triceps muscles, which are at the back of your upper arms – it spans down from your shoulder to your elbow. The last muscle group in your arm is the forearm which is between your wrist and elbow. Your abdominal muscles as you already know are situated in your stomach area. Popular name for them are abs, six packs. As for your legs, there are the quadriceps muscles in the front of your upper legs, which are commonly called quads. As for the muscles at the back of the upper legs, they are called hamstring. Collectively, the quads and hamstring are called thighs. The muscles in the lower leg are all located at the back and it is called calf (singular) of calves (plural). The other major muscle groups that you should also know about and focus on are: glutes (your buttocks), lats (they are located at your upper back) and lower trap muscles (this is located at your lower back). Having a basic understanding of muscle anatomy before you start a weight training/bodybuilding program is essential so that you would be able to grow your muscles effectively.
